AnânAdûnât

“The Man and the Númenórean”

Made as (possibly) the first serious attempt at a full coherent story in Adûnayân.

“Ê? nazgûn, îzê?” Bitha Adûnân Anâyad.

“Oh? A slave, here?” said the Númenórean to the Man.

 

“Ruzram Gubayarânî!” rûkkha Anân.”

“Release the Gubayarânî!” shouted the Man.

 

“Kikallaba halîd anrâma? Agân nakha kiyada, tâidô. Ê, agân nakkha kiyada rîm.”

“You fell the guards of the house? Death comes for you, then. Oh, death has come for you, always.”

 

“Bâ agân nakha, zinid! Agân nakha kiyada pâyô anzê. Gubayarânîm narûwî, bâ nazgâi!”

“Not death comes, truth! Death comes against you from my hand. The Gubayarânî are men, not slaves!”

 

“Zên kana saphuditaragat, kakibitha anzinid? Bâ Anân nazgû. Zênmaga nê zinid, Zênmaga nê khôr. Zêbitha kinazgâi, kakinazgâi.” [1].

“I hold understanding and power, and you speak of truth? I make your truth, I am your lord. I say you are slaves, and you are slaves.”

 

“Zinida nakha Êruvô, bâkî! Êrun kirrina katha anâi abanada. Gubayarânîm anâi, Adûnâi anâi, nê katha anâi!”

“Truth comes from Êru, not you! Êru sang all men into the world. The Gubayarânî are men, the Númenóreans are men, we are all men!”

 

“Bâdô bitha anÊru ka avalôi, zêbina Mulkhêr, kahû tarag.”

“Do not speak of Êru and the Valar, I serve Morgoth, and he is power.”

 

“Bâ Mulkhêrun Êr, Êru Êr! Tarâg bâmâ Makhal bâ. Tarâg bâmâ nêgindi[2] bina dôlgu.”

“Morgoth is not the one, Êru is the one! Power without authority is not(hing). Power without purpose serves darkness.”

 

“Dô, kîyazgara Zigûrada? Tâidô, Kîyazgûnazgûwat. Nakha! Bâ zêdara. Haldim nâkhim, kazêzira kir kî-dal, raba!”

“So, you wage war against the Wizard? Then, you are a traitor and a slave. Come! I do not delay. The guards are coming, and I desire to cut you down, dog!”

 

“Bâ, kîn bâmâ zîr; kîn raba.”

“No, you are without love; You are the dog.”

 

Adûnân asdi anrakha. Zagar-mâ karas dôlgubê, uruzra udûn Anânnud. Anân, sigir-mâ gimlizorbê tappa Adûnâyad. Rôziya kallabam, sapîn azzagaram minalada, ithîr rahhâtam dâira. Narû narûwada yuyada, zagar anArûn sigir anÊruwada, Îra kiruni nazag anKathuphazgân, satta, bina anzîr.

The Númenórean was full of wrath. with sword crimson as evil night he unleashed hell on the Man. The Man, with spear as star fire leapt towards the Númenórean. Rain fell, clouds waged war against the heavens, lightning rent the earth. Man against man they went, sword of the (Dark) lord against spear of Êru, the first singing slavery of the Conqueror, the second, service of Love.

 

kayAdûnân phurrusa muluk urus-bê. Ubud-mâ anYôzâyan, abâr 'nAdûnân burôda Anânnud, dôlgu kâni Anâ tôrzu-bê kana balak. Rôtha anagan Adûnânô zirra lunug Anâ mâugada ahhâ. Bâ sigêr kana zagarada. Abâra anAnâ nên-bê guba ayar-î.

But Númenórean gushed malice like a flood. With a body of Westernesse, the strength of the Númenórean was overheavy on the Man, the Man held by the darkness as the storm holds the ship. The wave of death from the Númenórean desired to swallow the Man into its maw. The spear held not against the sword. The strength of the Man was like water drunk by the desert.

 

Îri, Bâ Anân dubda ugru-dalad, usaphda bêl rahta dôlgu, kayÊrun hû-mâ, ukanna Adûnânada.

Alone, the Man fell not into shadow; he understood light rents darkness, and Êru with him, he held against the Númenórean.

 

Tâidô, zagâr rahhâta sirig. Adûnân magga tunga aska, kadô azâg yada Adûnâyad. Bâ agan êphal.

Then, the sword broke the spear. The Númenórean made large wound, and so victory went to the Númenórean. Death was not far.

 

Narûwat huzzunada narû nakkha, kayAdûnâ sapphada narû halad.

The two men heard a man come, and the Númenórean understood the man was a guard.

 

Kanarûn zônâ, bâ halad. Bâ halad nakkha Adûnâyad; kathî haldî tammam-dal. Zônân agan Adûnâyad; uyadda zarâni makhalada anAnadûnê. Saibêth-mâ Ar-Pharazônunô, Abrazôrun, Hal-thôr akkhôr anEldalôndê, ruzzuram gathar anDulgurôkhîm Adûnânud anga-mâ.

But the man was a stranger, not a guard. No guard came to the Númenórean; all the guards were struck down. The stranger was death to the Numenorean; he came with ancient authority of Westernesse. With assent from Ar-Pharazôn, Abrazôr, grand-son of the lord of Eldalonde, unleashed the Legion of the Dulgurokhim on the Numenorean with judgment.

 

Adûnân yazgu Kathuphazgânada, kadô, hu dunakha agan.

The Númenórean was a traitor to the All-Conqueror, and so, he must come to death.

 

Dulgurôkhîm nakhim, kayaruzram agan kathanud izê kana naha anyazâg anAdûnâ.

The Dulgurokhim are coming, and they unleash death on all here holding the secret of treachery of the Númenórean.

 

Îr Dulgurôkhun yada gatharôb; Bawbuthôrun, ugru anAbrazôr kallaba ithirbê haldim-nud tâlîyôb anagânî duhuzzunadam.

One Dulgurôkhon went bêfore the legion; Bawbuthôr, shadow of Abrazôr fell as lightning on the guards bêfore the feet of the judgers could be heard.

 

Anân kallaba Adûnâyôb, kayagan bâ nakha hûwada; Bawbuthôr tulluka Adûnâ Êr.

The Man fell bêfore the Númenórean, yet death did not come to him; Bawbuthôr found the Númenórean first.

 

Anân saphda Bawbuthôr; Bawbuthôr tulluka Anâyôb Anâbê azaggara Adûnâiyada, kaniggahû bâ. Adûnân huzzunada Bawbuthôr, kasaphda hûbâ.

The Man knew Bawbuthôr; Bawbuthôr had found the Man before as the Man waged war against the Númenóreans, and ended him not. The Númenórean heard Bawbuthôr, and knew him not.

 

“Manakî?” Ubitha.

“Who are you?” He said.

 

Bawbuthôrun bitha, “Du-agani Narûwî zirram saphudi? Bâ, duyaba, yanakkha nêgada. Bâ kizirra saphudi kiyaganibê...yazgû.”

Bawbuthôr said, “Must dead men desire understanding? No, they do not, they have come to the end. You desire not understanding as you are dead...traitor.”

 

“Zên Tulluka,” Adûnân bitha saphudi-mâ. Dôlgô kallaba ûnud.

“I am found,” the Númenórean spoke with understanding. A darkness fell on him.

 

“Duzêpâda zê zimîr kayada!” Adûnân bitha.

“I must grab my jewels and go!” The Númenórean said.

 

“Bâ Kiyada; Akhâsa îzê kadâri,” Bawbuthôrun bitha.

“You go not; the chasm is here and waiting,” Said Bawbuthôr.

 

Adûnân sapphada warag, kahunakha Bawbuthôrada.

The Númenórean understood the enemy, and he came against Bawbuthôr.

 

Satta Tâmîya, kayAdûnân agani.

Two strikes, and the Númenórean is dead.

 

 

[1]. He is delibêrately using the subjective inflection with his 1st person singulars here, in an attempt to assert his identity and person over the Man.

It would also most likely bê considered blasphemous usage by the Faithful, as he is essentially asserting himself to bê a god.

[2]. nêgindi is a construct of nêg ("end") and indi ("will, resolve"). Having no words for "purpose," I deemed this a suitable substitute until further notice.
