an- pref. “of; genitival/adjectival prefix”

Used to denote a genitival relationship when used within a sentence.  When prefixed in a word compound, it turns the compound into an adjective (e.g. an- + adûni (“The West”) à anadûni (“western”)).

 

Examples

Hirêg anurkhu rahhata zagar-mâ.  “The throat of the orc was rent with a sword.”

Raznânun anlômi nakkha Amatthâni.  “The Wanderer of the starry night came to Valinor.”

Khazrû ‘nZôr-Zimril.  “Male Corsair of Zôr-Zimril.”

Anazâri râmâ kallaba!  “The Maritime fortress has fallen!”
