Past

According to Tolkien, the Adûnaic past tense was “often used as pluperfect when aorist = past, or as future perfect when aorist = future”.  For the newcomer, the past tense is used to talk in the past tense.

Biconsonantal verbs

Double second consonant, suffix -a.


*yad- “to go” > yadda “gone”

Triconsonantal verbs

Double second consonant, suffix -a.


kalab- “to fall” > kallaba “fallen/fell”

Derived verbs

Break up consonant clusters with additional base vowels, double second-to-last consonant, shorten final .

*azgarâ- “to wage war” > azaggara “waged war” | abrazâ- “to endure” > abarraza “endured”
