*lômi n.  (Strong-II Neuter) “(pleasant, starry) night”

More precisely, a “fair night, a night of stars.”  According to Tolkien, “it is a word of peace and beauty and has none of the associations of fear or groping that ‘dark’ has.”  It appears to be closely related to the Primitive Elvish root √LUM (“shadow, darkness”).

For unpleasant words for night or darkness, see dôlgu, nâlu, and ugru.
