This one had an interesting development.  It first came about as ranêl, a hypothetical transitional word from Edain obel (“town”) to Westron ran(u) (“village”).

Then it became beleth, because of the idea that what keeps a community together is their affectation for one another, their ability to work together.  That led to the introduction of the word bêl (“love in an affectionate way, familial love”) into it, but then mixed up to make it more distinct.  Then I thought that it would make more sense to include katha (“all”) into it, much like kathuphazgân (“conqueror, (lit.) All-ruler”), so then it became kabêlân (katha + bêl + -ân).

Then I realized that a community was ultimately built on familial love, so I took the postposition -ô (“from”) and -bêl to form ôbêl above, which together means “from familiar love.”  I laid back, patted myself on the back for a good job, until I realized that I simply took the roundabout way to adapt/adopt the original Edain word.

Lol, I really wanted to bang my head so hard then.
