Reverse-derived from phazân (“prince, king’s son”), the gloss figured out from the way Tolkien uses the term “prince” in his works such as Lord of the Rings, implying them to be smaller rulers bound by loyalty and other factors (such as race) to the overall king (e.g. prince Imrahil or prince Faramir).
